A Conversation for Modern Media
Today’s media environment moves at incredible speed. News travels instantly across television, websites, social media, podcasts, and newsletters. With so many sources competing for attention, separating reliable reporting from misinformation can feel overwhelming.
Many people respond by simply tuning out.
But what if the answer isn’t disengagement, but understanding how journalism works and learning how to evaluate information more effectively?
That conversation is exactly what Quid Novi aims to spark. This thought-provoking evening will examine how journalism works, how news is produced, and how readers and viewers can better evaluate the information they encounter every day.
Panelists include:
-
Dana Coffield – Editor, The Colorado Sun
-
Linda Carpio-Shapley – President of Student Media, Colorado State University
-
Chris Wood – Editor, BizWest
-
Erin O’Toole – Reporter, KUNC Public Radio
-
Jackie Hutchins – Journalist, Loveland Reporter-Herald
-
Pamela Johnson – Journalist, Loveland Reporter-Herald
-
Ken Amundson – Retired journalist and Quid Novi steering committee member
Together they will explore the realities of modern journalism and offer insight into how audiences can better understand and interpret the news they consume.
As Amundson explains:
“Financial issues, political pressures, and a confusing mix of media sources make it difficult for people to know what to believe. But there are ways to navigate the media milieu, and we’ll provide ways to accomplish it.”
Understanding the news has never been more important. Whether you are a regular news reader, a curious citizen, or someone who wants to better navigate the modern media landscape, this conversation will offer valuable insight.

Approved by the Fort Collins Historic Preservation Services Department in December 2014, “Living Her Legacy’s” request–to create the first highly visible, public, outdoor, historic art / education exhibit recognizing women’s accomplishments–took root with great anticipation and excitement. In 2015, the selection process of the forty-eight Living Her Legacy Honorees began and was completed in 2018. A dedicated community of over 100 volunteers nominated, judged, and selected the final forty-eight Legacy Honorees–women with ties to Northern Colorado.
